Not all dogs enjoy sitting, and there are plenty of other cues that can be used instead. However, “sit” is still a foundational cue that should be taught initially.

A complete “sit” is not a hover, however as you can see in this video, some dogs do sit on their back legs so their rump is not quite touching the ground. This is not a hover as it can just be the specific anatomy of the dog. This is often seen in larger dogs.
